The Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) is looking for candidates for an internship at our headquarters in The Hague to temporarily join our team to help run framework contracts for the European Commission’s Directorate-General International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO / DG EuropeAid) and Directorate-General Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME). The period of the internship is for 5 or 6 months and the internship is for 3 to 5 working days per week (depending on availability of the selected candidate).

CILC promotes the rule of law by initiating and implementing international legal cooperation projects. We bring together legal experts from different countries to work out solutions for a variety of challenges within developing legal systems. We are based in The Hague and our current work spans dozens of countries in development and in transition in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

CILC is implementing four framework contracts (FWC) for DG EuropeAid in the areas of governance and home affairs (Lot 7), peace and stability (Lot 2 and 3) and one for DG HOME. CILC is a consortium member in all four framework contracts. More information can be found on our website. During the internship the intern supports the project managers within CILC with the acquisition and implementation of new assignments as part of these four framework contracts. Although the projects are worldwide, the work of the intern is in The Netherlands.

 

You will

Candidates for this internship will:

  • help coordinate the receipt of and responses to Requests for Services (RfS), informing the partners and colleagues of new missions received, working with the CILC project managers to ensure deadlines and quality thresholds are met
  • ensure all relevant paperwork for both RfS and awarded projects linked to the FWC is in place in a timely manner, including contracts with experts and invoicing arrangements
  • identify potential experts for the various assignments and occasionally check experts’ references
  • support the project manager in the writing of proposals and reports
  • help continually improve internal administrative systems, procedures and materials linked to the FWC
  • undertake day-to-day communications with the consortium leaders, institutional partners, Netherlands law faculties, individual subject experts on individual assignments and the FWC project pipeline
  • where appropriate, provide support for individual assignments linked to the FWC (for example assistance coordinating events, desk based research, providing social media support etc.)
  • any other reasonable duties that may be required.

  • working with the European Commission and CILC’s (inter)national partners and experts
  • proposal and report writing
  • understanding of the international rule of law, EU home affairs and migration agendas

You will get an internship compensation in line with the regulations of the Netherlands higher education system. Interns who are still following a bachelor or master program will receive a gross monthly stipend of maximum €350 (pro rata) for the duration of their internship. Additional costs such as housing, travel, living expenses and medical insurance must be borne by the intern.

 

We seek

Candidates for this internship will:

  • have an interest in the rule of law, international development and EU integration
  • have excellent networking, communication, organisational and administrative skills
  • have excellent command of English (written and verbal), similar command of French will be a strong asset
  • have excellent IT and computer literacy, including excellent document formatting skills
  • be an experienced user of social media and web communication platforms (including LinkedIn)
  • have a capability to work autonomously, willingness to work flexibly to meet tight deadlines and to receive tasks from various persons
  • be a proactive self-starter able to use own initiative
  • be a fast learner
