On 21st November 2024 CILC BESP conducted a workshop jointly with the Permanent Bureau of The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and the European Institute on Private International Law (EAPIL). Through its activities and  project’ experts, distinguished Private international law professors from the five legal systems, the so-called National Champions, BESPs has been promoting the HCCH conventions and supporting the process of their acceding and ratification in the Western Balkans. The Workshop was opened by Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of HCCH and Dr. Gerardine Goh Escolar, Deputy Secretary General. The Young Researchers Network of the EAPIL presented a comparative analysis on the recognition and enforcement of non-EU judgments in EU member states. BESp National Champions from Albania, Prof. Aida Gugu Bushati, from Kosovo* Dr. Donika Qerimi, from Montenegro Prof. Maja Kostic-Mandic, from North Macedonia, Prof. Ilija Rumenov, from Serbia Dr. Slavko Djordjevic, the Lead Expert Jos Uitdehaag, Project Manager Zlaty Mihailova and Dr. Veronika Efremova, Regional Coordinator for North Macedonia took part in the discussions and provided the third countries perspective. Ms Melissa Ford, Secretary (Diplomat Lawyer) and Head of the Transnational Litigation and Apostille Division and Dr. Ning Zhao, Principal Legal Officer of HCCH reflected on the divergence and the complexity of domestic legislation and highlighted the effectiveness of a unified single instrument such as the HCCH 2019 Judgment Convention.
